Reinforced Cement Concrete 2 Bay Sway Frame (RCC 2 Bay Sway Frame)

Why We Use RCC Instead of Only Steel?

Why We Make Buildings Of RCC Instead Of Steel?

Though steel has higher compressive strength and tensile strength, due to the following reasons, we can’t build high-rise or skyscraper buildings from steel.

  1. Steel gets easily corroded, and hence it isn’t weather resistant.
  2. Compared with concrete, steel is more vulnerable to environmental agencies. So, the durability of steel is more than that of steel.
  3. Steel is costlier than concrete.
  4. Steel sections required for the same strength criteria are more slender than concrete, and this gives the feeling of insecurity.
  5. The strength of steel reduces as the temperature increases. In other words, steel structures are prone to loss of strength with heat.
  6. Steel is a good conductor of electricity, so, it poses a serious question on the safety of human lives.
