GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The GATE exam opens doors to many opportunities. To get admission for M.Tech. in IITs and NITs GATE is essential.

Also, if one gets admission into another college or university, he will also avail stipend for the 2 years duration of the course from AICTE.

Also, if a candidate has a good score in GATE Exam along with a good CGPA in B.E. or B.Tech. he or she could get a direct job in the following PSUs (Public Sector Undertaking companies).

UGC(University Grant Commission) also provides financial assistance to Ph.D. students who have secured their fellowship with a valid GATE score.

Currently, companies in the following list give the job to GATE passed candidates.

MDL, BPCL, GAIL (Gas Authority of India Ltd.), NLC LTD, CEL, Indian Oil, HPCL (Hindustan Petrochemicals Limited), NBPC, NECC, BHEL, WBSEDCL, NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation), Airport Authority of India, Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation Ltd., NALCO, DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation, National Textile Corporation, etc.

Eligibility criteria for appearing in the GATE exam

If you have completed your B.E. or B.Tech. in civil engineering or B.Arch. or AMIE Civil, you can appear in GATE Exam.
If you are even in the last year of B.E. or B.Tech. then also you can appear in the GATE exam.
