Punjab Building Bye Laws – 2018

Posted on June 12, 2026June 12, 2026 by admin

In April 2026, the Punjab government officially withdrew the Punjab Unified Building Rules 2025, restoring earlier frameworks such as the Punjab Building Bye Laws 2018 and the Urban Planning Rules 2021.

Key Points of the Reversion to Punjab Building Bye Laws – 2018

  • Unified rules rolled back: The 2025 attempt to consolidate multiple regulations into one framework was discontinued.

  • Return to 2018 & 2021 codes: Builders and architects must now comply with the older, separate sets of bye‑laws.

  • Impact on developers: Ongoing projects had to adjust back to previous compliance standards, affecting timelines and approvals.

  • High‑rise and special category buildings: Provisions introduced in 2025 were nullified, reverting to earlier norms.

  • Self‑certification scheme withdrawn: Simplified approval processes for low‑rise buildings were discontinued.
